Filing your Residential Homestead Exemption is an easy and free way to save money on Texas state taxes! You are eligible to file your exemption if you own the home, and its your primary residence. The window to file exemptions is between January 1st and April 30th. You will need a valid state ID with the address you are filing on it. Below is step by step instructions by county. Collin County

- Go to the Collin County Appraisal District Site

- Select DOWNLOADS from the top menu

- Select FORMS

- Select RESIDENTIAL EXEMPTIONS

- Click to download the RESIDENTIAL HOMESTEAD EXEMPTION APPLICATION

- Print & fill out form

- Send it back to the address on the form in the top left corner

Dallas County

- Go to the Dallas County Appraisal District Site

- Select FORMS from the left menu

- Under EXEMPTION FORMS, select RESIDENCE HOMESTEAD EXEMPTION APPLICATION

- Search for the property by owner's name & complete the online application

Denton County

- Go to the Denton County Appraisal District Site

- Click on the bottom box, EXEMPTIONS & AG INFO

- Select APPLY FOR A HOMESTEAD EXEMPTION

- Download and print the linked file (50-114)

- Mail back you application and copy of your Texas drivers license to the address listed, or you can submit your application via the helpdesk link.

Johnson County

- Go to the Johnson County Tax Office Site

- Select PROPERTY TAX from the left menu, then ONLINE FORMS

- Select EXEMPTION FORMS from the list

- Click to download the RESIDENTIAL HOMESTEAD EXEMPTION APPLICATION

- Print & fill out form

- Send it back to the Tax Office:

- Select FORMS from the top menu

- Select HOMESTEAD EXEMPTION

- Application may be filled out online, click on the fields

- Print & mail it back to the address on the top of the application
